Import dosent work fine... 6 Months ago Karma: 0
Hi. congratulation for your component. I have a joomla 1.0 site, now I make another site with J 1.5 and another domain. But I want transfert some content (not static)from my old site to new. I have installed in J 1.0 your component and export some content. Save the file and reimport in J 1.5. Select Transfer Imported Sections > select the section > insert > save. OK.
But when I look into the article it's clear!
Where is the problem???

thanks!

Please check that you have the correct version of export content installed:

Export Content 1.7.0 is for Joomla 1.0+ series.
Export Content 2.0.0 is for Joomla 1.5+ series.
Export Content 1.0.0 is for Mambo.

Make sure these directories are writable:
/administrator/components/com_export_content/zip...
/administrator/components/com_export_content/new_version...
/administrator/components/com_export_content/img...

If everything is as shown above you should be able to compile content from the source site and download it.
Then install it as you would any other component on the destination site.

Also when transferring by section you may need to rename the section(s) if there is already one by that name.

Another thing to check is whether the articles have the content that should be there by using the edit feature after the content has been imported.

Is this English or another language?
Has your server got the "iconv library" enabled?

If you are still having problems please give me as much information as you can.
Please post back with you results as it may help others with similar issues.

I did everything you said. But I am still getting the error message.

QUOTE:
ERROR: Could not find a Joomla! XML setup file in the package.

I even copied and pasted the xml into the zip file and still nothing?

I get this error when I try to install the exported package as a component.

What versions of Joomla or mambo are you moving content to/from?
What versions of export content do you have setup on the source and destination sites?
What language is it in?

This error is misleading because it says that the XML can't be found where as it should say the installer can't parse it.

When moving content into Joomla 1.0+ series you may get an error like this if the installer finds one or more characters that can't parse because the site installer chocked.

So if you have copy/pasted anything from word for example or any other similar editor it may be because it has created a few characters that are causing the trouble.

If this is the case you will normally see small squares instead of the intended text.
Note: this will usually be punctuation.

Or if there is another language other than English it may be one or more characters of that language that is stopping the installer.

Please post back with your results.
