Export By Section Modification 2 Years, 1 Month ago Karma: 0
Steve,

I am using Export Component Beta 1.4 on Joomla 1.0.11 sites and finally had the opportunity to utilize the modification you made to the admin.export_content.php file that allows export by Joomla content section by manually modifying the file at line 30 with the content section ID desired. It worked.

A few important things I took note to were that the dates were not imported, which makes it difficult for readers to determine which articles are more pertinent and more up to date. In the category section, it makes for a mess when there are 50-100 time-sensative content articles. Likewise, the authors are stripped and not available - at least in alias name form.

My test export included some content items that consisted of event coverage that took place over several days. Ideally, I would elect to perform updates to multiple site several times a day. Currently, it seems that when imported into a site, those items exported by category would be duplicated. I can deal with that, since i would simply import by content item, but I thought I'd mention it.

Now for some sleep. I'll catch up with you later. Thank you.

I have just completed this and will be in the next release which will allow you to compile by section(s) by simply ticking boxes the same as the standard Joomla sections manager.
Note: all static content will be compiled by default.

I will look into the dates not being transferred.

As for the authors that is another matter because even if the same author is on both the source and destination sites the authors ID will be different which is how the details are obtained.
That said I think we should be able to do something with the authors alias as that is a separate field.

Yeah the duplicate entry problem can be a pain but it is out of my hands and is a Joomla database setting.

You could change the category name after importing it this is not an ideal solution but would allow you to transfer the entire category at once.

Since the poster is not auto subscribed to the topic, I was unaware of the updates. Outstanding work. The component has progressed superbly and works very well. Thanks.

After my experience with the latest 1.6 version, I have posted some items in the Wish List category as suggestions.
