compiled data.. how to import? 6 Months, 1 Week ago Karma: 0
Hi I just had a go at the export content component. I have exported all my static content from one site and now I want to import it to another site.
In the Instructions it reads: ..and install it at the destination site via the site component installer as you would any other component.

It might just be me, but I cannot get that part around my head? As I read it, I am supposed to install my compiled file that I just downloaded from my source site via the component installer on my destination site?
When I do that I just get an error: ERROR: Could not find a Joomla! XML setup file in the package.

Again it might be me?

Thanks in advance, Peter

BTW versions are: source 1.0.12, dest. 1.0.13

Yes that is correct.

When you press the compile buttons at the top Export Content collects the sections or static items you have selected and builds a component that can be installed on any other site where Export Content is setup.

As to the error you are receiving it may be because there is a character that the site installer has run into that it can't parse.

What versions of Export Content do you have installed?

Export Content version 1.7.0 should be on Joomla 1.0+ series
Export Content version 2.0.0 should be on Joomla 1.5+ series
Export Content version 1.0.0 is for Mambo.

In your situation you should have version 1.7.0 installed on both the source and destination sites.

So if this is how you have things setup and are receiving the above error try compiling a few items at a time to see if you can isolate the item that is causing the problem.

Is all content in English as the Joomla installer will choke on some characters?

Hi Steve

It's mostly danish content. So does that mean that I can't use the component?

The content import for com_export_content component, ver.1.7, in the case when ERROR: Could not find a Joomla! _xml_ setup file in the package occurs, can be cured by reparing of import_content_data.xml file to the strictly UTF-8 file.

I had mentioned problems with exporting the content from Joomla 1.0.13 production site on Linux and importing the content import package to the developer site Joomla 1.0.13 on WinXP (only english language used). When I replaced original import_content_data.xml file with the same named corrected (i.e. strictly UTF-8 coded) file, then the content import was possible without any problems. The file correction can be performed with proper setting of document encoding to UTF-8 and save. For this purpose can be used e.g. Macromedia Dreamweaver MX, PHPEdit or Oxygen (to mention some of plenty of editors).

Well done vlado.
If you would like to change were this is set go to:
/administrator/components/com_export_content/admin.export_content.php.
About line 695 for content compiled by section and about line 2280 for static content.

Hi Steve

I actually have run into a new "issue"

I have 59 items in static content, so I have to split my export into two files.
But after I imported the 1st (smallest one) without problems, and go for the next one. The component installer returns a blank page after pressing install?

Any ideas on that?

/peter

Hi Peter.

It may be due to the server upload limit why don't you try compiling about 10 at a time and see how you go?

Some servers the upload limit could be set as low as 2m.
