TOPIC: Import Problems

Import Problems 2 Years, 1 Month ago Karma: 0
Using 2.0 to import content into my Joomla! 1.5.14 site. Used 1.7 to export the information. Here are the other pertinent details:
PHP Built on: Linux 2.6.18-92.el5 #1 SMP Tue Jun 10 18:51:06 EDT 2008 x86_64
Database Version: 4.1.22-standard
Database Collation: utf8_general_ci
PHP Version: 5.2.10
Web Server: Apache/2.2.13 (Unix) mod_ssl/2.2.13 OpenSSL/0.9.8e-fips-rhel5 mod_auth_passthrough/2.1 mod_bwlimited/1.4 FrontPage/5.0.2.2635
Web Server to PHP interface: cgi

I am able to get the information to the point of download, but when I go import it via the installer in 1.5.14 I simply get the following error message:

"There was an error uploading this file to the server."

I know for a fact that the user has used Microsoft Word to copy and paste many of the articles on the site ... likely several hundred at least.

It seems that through reading other posts that this causes a problem, but I did not see if there was a work around or not. If this is the case, what is the best suggestion you have to use this tool? I have nearly 2,000 articles that I need to import.

Thanks, in advance, for your time.

Yes it may be the word punctuation.

Do you get any other error messages when attempting to install the import data component, showing where it found a problem in the sql

As a test just to make sure it is nothing else causing problems you could try compiling just a couple of items with a bit of dummy content and see if that installs as it should.

A few other things it may be is the file size, the server might have a low upload limit.

It might also be timing out if the server is only set to 30 seconds.

If the above test works ok, you could try compiling just one section and see how it goes.

Basically break it up into smaller installs which will get around all the above issues other than the process stopping on a certain character.
